چکیده

Algorithms are presented for the determination of whether a given point in is interior to, exterior to or on an arbitrary polygonal boundary and for the determination of whether a point in is interior to, exterior to or on a simple polyhedral boundary. The algorithms are based on the principle of using binary coded coordinate systems and parity counting of the number of intersections of the polygon or polyhedron boundary with an infinite vector. The amount of floating-point arithmetic, including arithmetical and comparative operations has been reduced to a minimum making the algorithms very suitable for implementation in either low-level language software or by hardware. Performance of the algorithms is compared with a number of others taken from the literature and a considerable increase in efficiency is apparent. The algorithms are also shown to be consistent.

A Fast Algorithm for Covering Rectangular Orthogonal Polygons with a Minimum Number of r-Stars

Introduction This paper presents an algorithm for covering orthogonal polygons with minimal number of guards. This idea examines the minimum number of guards for orthogonal simple polygons (without holes) for all scenarios and can also find a rectangular area for each guards. We consider the problem of covering orthogonal polygons with a minimum number of r-stars. In each orthogonal polygon P,...

Minkowski decomposition of convex lattice polygons

A relatively recent area of study in geometric modelling concerns toric Bézier patches. In this line of work, several questions reduce to testing whether a given convex lattice polygon can be decomposed into a Minkowski sum of two such polygons and, if so, to finding one or all such decompositions. Other motivations for this problem include sparse resultant computation, especially for the impli...

Modelling Decision Problems Via Birkhoff Polyhedra

A compact formulation of the set of tours neither in a graph nor its complement is presented and illustrates a general methodology proposed for constructing polyhedral models of decision problems based upon permutations, projection and lifting techniques. Directed Hamilton tours on n vertex graphs are interpreted as (n-1)- permutations. Sets of extrema of Birkhoff polyhedra are mapped to tours ...

A New Heuristic Algorithm for Drawing Binary Trees within Arbitrary Polygons Based on Center of Gravity

Graphs have enormous usage in software engineering, network and electrical engineering. In fact graphs drawing is a geometrically representation of information. Among graphs, trees are concentrated because of their ability in hierarchical extension as well as processing VLSI circuit. Many algorithms have been proposed for drawing binary trees within polygons. However these algorithms generate b...

Efficient Approximation Algorithms for Point-set Diameter in Higher Dimensions

We study the problem of computing the diameter of a  set of $n$ points in $d$-dimensional Euclidean space for a fixed dimension $d$, and propose a new $(1+varepsilon)$-approximation algorithm with $O(n+ 1/varepsilon^{d-1})$ time and $O(n)$ space, where $0 < varepsilonleqslant 1$. We also show that the proposed algorithm can be modified to a $(1+O(varepsilon))$-approximation algorithm with $O(n+...
